Baker Mayfield: TCU ‘hung me out to dry’ during recruitment

baker-mayfield

Baker Mayfield hasn’t forgotten how TCU handled his recruitment.

The Oklahoma quarterback’s story is well documented. He had to walk on at Texas Tech after being fairly lightly recruited, transferred to Oklahoma after one semester, and has led the Sooners to the College Football Playoff.

Perhaps the most high profile school that had interest in Mayfield coming out of high school was TCU, but Mayfield detailed the story of how that recruitment went south.

“They told me they were gonna offer me a scholarship, and then kind of drug it out,” said Mayfield of TCU, via USA Today’s George Schroeder.

“I truly believed they were gonna offer me because they told me that,” he said, noting that he rejected interest from other schools because he was so confident he was going to play for TCU. “It disappointed me. They kind of hung me out to dry right before signing day.

“[Gary Patterson] doesn’t like me, and I have no comment on that.”

Though TCU ended up with the electric Trevone Boykin, a lot of schools missed on Mayfield, and they’re well aware of it.
