Bill O’Brien reportedly ‘absolutely loves’ Patrick Mahomes

Now that Tony Romo has traded in his shoulder pads and cleats for a blazer and a microphone, the Houston Texans are all but certain to make an attempt at upgrading their quarterback situation in the NFL Draft. And if one report about how high head coach Bill O’Brien is on Patrick Mahomes is true, the Texans could even think about trading up.

Tom Pelissero of USA Today cited a source on Monday who said O’Brien “absolutely loves” Mahomes.

Mahomes has been a hot name leading up to the draft, and you can understand why. The former Texas Tech star has a big arm, and he threw for more than 5,000 yards and 41 touchdown passes in his junior year last year. Big 12 quarterbacks are known for lighting up the stat sheet at unsustainable rates, but NFL teams obviously feel Mahomes can play at the next level.

The Texans currently have the 25th overall pick in the draft, so they may have to move up if they’re in love with Mahomes. If you want to know how difficult this year’s QB class is to get a read on, just read what Ron Jaworski recently said about the group. While names like Mitch Trubisky and Deshaun Watson have been more popular than Mahomes in recent months, we wouldn’t be shocked to see any of them hear their name called first.
