That would be a good idea for Kelly to coach in a bowl but I think it’s too late since they’ve already been set. He’ll be able to focus plenty of time on recruiting now though.

I think they picked the right man, but they made a huge mistake in turning down a bowl bid. If they had gone to a bowl, Kelly could have coached them and had fifteen days of practice with the players. Thus, he could have evaluated them and had a better idea of exactly which positions needed to be most heavily recruited. There would have also been a slight chance that Jimmy and/or Golden might have come back for their senior year with an offensive genius like Kelly seems to be.

as for Kelly, anyone who has paid his dues coming up the ladder deserves a shot at a big job. he’ll do fine
