Missouri president Tim Wolfe resigns

University of Missouri president Tim Wolfe resigned Monday morning amid major controversy surrounding several racist incidents on the school’s campus.

Over the weekend, members of the Missouri football team went on strike over a slew of racist activity that has allegedly taken place. The players vowed to not resume anything football related until Wolfe removed himself. Wolfe responded Sunday by saying he was not stepping down, but he apparently changed his mind.

KTGR radio provided audio of Wolfe announcing his decision:

“I take full responsibility for the actions that have occurred,” Wolfe said. “I have asked everybody to use my resignation to heal. Let’s focus in changing what we can change today and in the future, not what we can’t change in the past.”

There has been outrage on the Mizzou campus over the lack of response from Wolfe in the wake of several racist incidents, many of which are outlined here. In addition to members of the Tigers football team going on strike, a black student also went on a hunger strike and several faculty members staged a walk out.

Mizzou head coach Gary Pinkel showed support for his players over the weekend with this tweet. Several players reacted to Monday’s news of Wolfe’s resignation on Twitter:
