Nick Saban says Butch Jones is like an ‘intern’ for Alabama

Nick Saban used an interesting term to describe Butch Jones’ new role with the Alabama football program.

Jones met with Saban earlier this month regarding an offensive analyst position and it’s now official — Jones is part of the Crimson Tide staff.

Due to NCAA rules, Jones isn’t permitted to coach on the field due to the number of coaches already on Saban’s staff. Because of that, Saban said Jones is like an “intern.”

Jones comes to Alabama after going 34-27 as head coach of Tennessee. Lane Kiffin, Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley, and Steve Sarkisian held the same position previously, which could serve as a springboard to rejuvenate Jones’ career. Still, it’s pretty funny to think of 50-year-old man who has 11 years of Division I head coaching experience as an intern.
