59-Year-Old Charles Chulada Cut by Saskatchewan Roughriders After Tryout

When you open up your tryouts to the public, you better prepare yourself for just about anything. Sometimes you walk away with a Vince Papale, other times, a Charles Chulada.

Who is Charles Chulada you ask?

Chulada is a 59-year-old former college football player and wrestler from Syrause who was cut after trying out for the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders Sunday.

According to The Daytona Beach News-Journal, Chulada showed up for the tryout wearing blue jeans and an old t-shirt, to go along with a pair of cleats from his semi-pro playing days. “The self-described brick mason and poet rode his bike — and we’re not talking a Harley here — from his home in Ormond-by-the-Sea to Municipal Stadium to participate in the free one-day camp conducted by the Canadian Football League team.”

Unfortunately for Chulada, when it came time for contact drills, the team decided to cut him. Of the 86 people who showed up for the tryout, the team says they’ll be happy if they can get one or two players out of it.

Sadly it didn’t work out for Chulada, but it wouldn’t have been the first time a 59-year-old had made a high level football team if he did.
