Anonymous Jets at it again, reportedly baffled by attention Tim Tebow is receiving

Since he was traded to the Jets last week, Tim Tebow has easily become the most highly-publicized backup quarterback in NFL history. The Jets insist Mark Sanchez is their starter, which makes Tebow an awfully popular insurance policy. According to the NY Post, many of the Jets players don’t understand the move. Which players in particular? Wouldn’t you know it, they’d rather remain anonymous.

All of the attention on Tebow has some Jets shaking their heads. Several current Jets, who spoke with The Post on Saturday, asked not to be quoted but expressed disbelief at the team bringing in Tebow.

The idea of a backup quarterback having a press conference is something they can’t wrap their heads around, and they know it’s just the beginning.

The Jets have a press conference scheduled for Monday to introduce their new backup. Believe it or not, they did not do the same for the since-released Drew Stanton when he signed with the team a couple weeks ago. The Jets players are right to be skeptical about the situation, but the anonymous quoting thing is becoming an awfully bad habit for Rex Ryan’s crew.

Toward the end of last season, some “anonymous” Jets players ripped Sanchez for being lazy and pampered. Sanchez recently said that those players were gutless, and he’s right. Tebow is not going to speak out about it, but the same concept applies. If you have an issue with something that the team is doing, approach the front office and keep it behind closed doors. Joe Namath could be right and the Tebow trade could become a massive distraction, but talking to the New York media about it and asking to be kept anonymous only makes the situation worse.
