Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett took part in the team’s first training camp practice on Thursday while contract talks with the organization remain ongoing.
Brissett, who sat out the voluntary portion of the offseason program and was a “hold-in” during mandatory minicamp, worked with the quarterbacks alongside Gardner Minshew, Carson Beck and Kedon Slovis. He took the final turn in drills as he worked back into the flow of practice.
First-year coach Mike LaFleur confirmed before the session that Brissett would practice. When asked about the timing after Brissett missed earlier work, LaFleur kept it simple.
“He’s here. He’s under contract and it’s the first day of practice,” LaFleur said, via ESPN.
LaFleur described the negotiations as productive.
“It’s been productive between us and his team, so still ongoing but I’d say we’re productive,” he said.
Brissett is scheduled to earn a $4.88 million base salary this season, with $1.5 million guaranteed and incentives that could push the total to $5.39 million.
The focus for now is bringing Brissett up to speed on the Cardinals’ cadence, formations, no-huddle package and overall scheme. LaFleur stressed a day-by-day approach rather than any immediate competition or peak performance this early in camp.
