The Panthers faced the Saints for Thursday Night Football. Prior to the game, Cam Newton took the opportunity to show Charlotte’s NBA team some love.
While on the field for pregame warmups, Newton sported Under Armour cleats with the Charlotte Hornets logo and team colors.
Charlotte was, of course, home to the Hornets from 1988 to 2002, before the franchise relocated to New Orleans. The NBA returned to Charlotte with the Bobcats beginning play in 2004. Last season, the New Orleans Hornets became the Pelicans, freeing up the Hornets name to make its rightful return to Charlotte. That happened earlier this year and, for the second time, the Charlotte Hornets are back (as they should be) with their familiar purple and teal theme.
Newton’s shoutout didn’t go unnoticed by the Hornets, who were appreciative of the gesture.

It’s always great to see sports teams in the same city supporting each other. For Newton, it was a better fashion choice than this one.
