Eli Manning jokes that David Carr should run around shirtless like Tim Tebow

When Tim Tebow running around without a shirt on in the rain becomes news, you have to ask yourself if that’s more of an indication of how slow a news day it is or how much people love Tebow. In reality, it was a combination of both. Tebow is probably the only backup quarterback in the league who can make headlines doing something like that (and find himself hanging in an MLB player’s locker for it), but Eli Manning thinks Giants backup David Carr should give it a shot anyway.

“I told David Carr to take his shirt off while we were running sprints after practice to see if he can get the same coverage,” Manning said on ESPN Radio on Thursday according to the NY Daily News.

Manning loves to make light of the Tebow/Jets situation, and he probably enjoys the fact that it results in the Giants flying under the radar despite the fact that they are the defending Super Bowl champions and have clearly been the best team in New York over the past four or five years. Eli then joked about ESPN moving their headquarters to accomodate their Jets coverage.

“Every time you turn on the TV, it’s the Jets,” he said. “SportsCenter is camped out at the Jets complex. I think they are moving everything from (ESPN headquarters in) Bristol (Conn.) to right there, to their complex over there. That will be an interesting move.”

The real losers with all this Jets madness could be the rest of the NFC East. The last thing the Cowboys, Eagles and Redskins need is another Giants team with a chip on its shoulder.
