Report: Jordan Cameron mulling NFL future after fourth concussion

Concussion concerns may force another NFL player into an early retirement.

According to a report by Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald on Wednesday, Miami Dolphins tight end Jordan Cameron is mulling his NFL future after suffering his fourth concussion in as many years.

The 28-year-old Cameron, who was concussed in a Week 3 victory over the Cleveland Browns and hasn’t played since, will not be suiting up on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers and is said to be very concerned about his long-term health.

Cameron is in his sixth NFL season and has 2046 receiving yards, 14 touchdowns, and a Pro Bowl selection to his name. He also has already earned nearly $8 million over his career in salary and bonuses (per Spotrac) and restructured his contract over the offseason to include an additional $5 million guaranteed for the 2016 campaign.

As we’ve seen in the not-so-distant past, the incentive for relatively young NFLers to walk away due to worries over their long-term well-being is ever-present. It’s especially so for a player like Cameron with a troublesome history of traumatic brain injuries, so you definitely can’t blame him if he indeed decides to call it quits.
