LeSean McCoy told Frank Gore not to sign with Eagles

LeSean McCoyFrank Gore signed with the Indianapolis Colts after having a change of heart over his agreed upon deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Could it be that a conversation with LeSean McCoy dissuaded him from going to Philly?

McCoy, who was traded by the Eagles to Buffalo last week, did an interview with NFL Network Tuesday and said he and Gore spoke over the phone and compared notes.

“I made that call. We talked on the phone, I said, ‘Frank, do not go to Philly, man, I will be angry with you,’ ” McCoy said with a smile and laugh.

“We talked about Philadelphia — he did ask me a lot of questions. It was mutual. I asked him about Greg (Roman) and he asked me about Chip (Kelly) on offense.

“I was honest with him — I told him he would get the ball a lot and he would love it. Chip is a mastermind. He finds ways to get the ball in space with the running backs and he will like it. So I was honest with him, for the most part.”

Though McCoy praised Kelly, host Scott Hanson had a feeling that the running back discouraged Gore from going to the Eagles. McCoy does not think that was the case.

“I don’t think (I discouraged him),” McCoy said. “Everything I said to him was positive. All the deep secrets I kept a secret. Everything I said was positive, so he made his own decision.”

You can watch the full interview here, but let me just say if I were playing McCoy in poker, I would be calling his bluff. He changed his body position, looked away, and overall seemed to be lying when he denied dissuading Gore.

Remember the report that said Gore had concerns about Kelly’s approach that supposedly rubbed McCoy the wrong way? Yeah, I think we now know where he got that inside information. And maybe that report about free agents being leery of signing to play for the Eagles under Chip holds some weight.
