NFL moves extra-point attempts back to 15-yard line
NFL owners on Tuesday approved the competition committee’s proposal to move extra-point attempts from the 2-yard line to the 15-yard line. Teams will still have the option to try a two-point conversion, and the line of scrimmage for that will remain at the 2-yard line.
In addition to moving back PATs, the rule change will also allow opposing teams to return two-point conversion attempts for two points of their own if there is a turnover.
Of the 32 NFL teams, 26 did not miss a single PAT last season. The Chicago Bears converted “just” 94.29 percent of their tries, which placed them last in the NFL.
As ESPN Stats and info notes, pushing PATs back should make them slightly less automatic.
