Osi Umenyiora says there’s a good chance he’ll be in a wheelchair by age 45

In case you haven’t taken note, Kurt Warner caused quite the stir last week with his comments about not wanting his children to play football. Everyone from analysts to former players to current players have weighed in on the matter, with some ripping Warner for dogging the game while others completely agree with him. Amani Toomer was one of the first to rip Warner for his comments, and on Tuesday morning one of Toomer’s former teammates took to Twitter to express his support for Warner.

“By the way, Kurt Warner is right to think how he is thinking about his kids and football,” Osi Umenyiora wrote. “It’s an awesome game and has done a lot for me, but I know when I’m 45 there is a strong chance I’ll be in a wheelchair. If I can avoid that for my son, I will. But if he wants to play I won’t stop him.

“Love Toomer that’s my guy, but he is dead wrong attacking Kurt like that.”

We don’t want to sit here and beat a dead horse, but the stuff Osi said makes a lot more sense than the overreactions we saw by Merril Hoge and Toomer. When it comes to the safety of your children, the whole “the game has done so much for me” thing kind of goes out the window.
