Rob Konrad turned down movie offer based on swimming ordeal

Rob Konrad Dolphins

Back in January, former NFL player Rob Konrad swam nine miles to safety after falling from his boat off the coast of Florida and was eventually rescued by the Coast Guard. The ordeal, as Konrad recounted, involved being stung by jellyfish and circled by a shark.

If you think Konrad’s tale of survival sounds like something that should be in a movie, you’re not alone. In fact, not only was the former second round draft pick approached with a movie offer, but book deals as well.

“There were some big name folks involved,” Konrad told the Miami Herald. “But I made the decision I wasn’t going to go that route.”

“It’s nothing I want to capitalize on. I don’t have the time and desire. I’m running three financial companies in Florida and one in Chicago.”

While many in the same situation would use the opportunity to benefit monetarily from an experience that seems to strange too be true, Konrad is proving to not be like those with intentions on making the most of their fifteen minutes of fame. The list of people who would choose to do the same is probably quite short, especially considering the circumstances overcome in this instance.

Konrad did say he is composing a “memo” of what happened for members of his family. For now, that will be the only written account of his harrowing tale.
