Shea Weber bashes Henrik Zetterberg’s head into the glass at end of Game 1 win (Video)

Getting a Game 1 win over the Red Wings on Wednesday apparently wasn’t enough for Predators defenseman Shea Weber, who felt compelled to grab Henrik Zetterberg‘s head and smash it into the glass during a play along the boards in the closing seconds of the contest. Zetterberg went to his knees in pain as an official intervened.

“He hit me from behind,” Weber said later. “So we’ll see. I don’t know. It’s the playoffs.”

For what it’s worth, Weber earned a roughing penalty officially at the 20:00 mark — you know, when fans were filing out of the stadium and Zambonis were beginning to clean the ice. So, that didn’t really settle anything. And while any reasonably objective person would say this is an offense worthy of suspension, Sporstnet’s John Shannon (via Puck Daddy) doesn’t think Weber will miss any time. That doesn’t rule out the potential for a fine.

Either way, I get the feeling some of the Red Wings *cough*Todd Bertuzzi*cough* will find a way to make Weber pay. Already expected to be a gripping, back-and-forth series, it just got that much more compelling.
