War Machine tried to commit suicide in jail

War Machine mug shot

MMA fighter War Machine tried to commit suicide in jail on Tuesday, according to a report.

TMZ says War Machine, real name Jonathan Koppenhaver, was found on the ground of his jail cell by an officer at the Clark County Jail in Nevada. War Machine was said to be unresponsive and had a piece of linen tied around his neck, which was also tied to the leg of the bed.

War Machine reportedly was sitting on the ground with his feet up against the bed and his face was purple. The officer cut the linen and removed it, allowing War Machine to breathe. War Machine is an isolated medical cell where he is on suicide watch.

To confirm this was no accident, TMZ says officers found a suicide note.

War Machine’s brother, Mike Koppenhaver, confirmed the suicide attempt in a tweet sent Thursday:

Mike has remained supportive of his brother despite expressing horror over his brother’s actions. He defended his brother and also said War Machine needs maximum psychiatric help.

War Machine was captured by US Marshals and local police in California in August. He was transported to Nevada, which is where he allegedly beat ex-girlfriend Christy Mack, and her lover Corey Thomas. You can see some of the horrifying photos of Mack after she was allegedly beaten by Koppenhaver.

War Machine faces 23 felony counts related to the alleged beatings. He refused to appear in court on Wednesday — likely because of the suicide attempt — and his attorneys are seeking a plea deal. The 32 counts include attempted murder, sexual assault, battery, coercion, preventing or dissuading a witness or victim from reporting a crime, and first-degree kidnapping resulting in substantial bodily harm.

Since being in jail, War Machine has been posting poems on his Twitter account that relate to his life. You can see some of them below.

Here is one published on Oct. 3:

Roses are red
I found a man in our bed.
Than to discover this…
I’d rather be dead.

So hurt and confused
My heart has been abused.
Too beautiful our plans
To not be used.

How could you forget
And carry on with no regret?
You’re a stranger now…
You sold your soul I bet.

Publicity, money, fame
Is this all just a game?
It was you who I loved ya know…
Not just a name.

Yes, I’m that bored. Hope you enjoyed the attempt at levity (at my expense) in the first 2 lines…FML

Here is one posted on the same day where he said he was praying for the reaper.

Pain!
On the inside
Pain!
I wish it were outside
Pain!
How can I fight it?
Pain!
I can’t even hide it.
Pain!
Not cured by a pill.
Pain!
It’s testing my will.
Pain!
Deeper and deeper.
Pain!
I pray for the reaper..

You can read a few more of his poems here and here.
