Rory McIlroy says he and Caroline Wozniacki have not broken up

Rory McIlroy Caroline WozniackiRory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki are in the news again because of rumors that they have broken up, but the two are in denial mode.

Irish outlets The Sun and The Independent reported over the weekend that the golfer and tennis player have split. The Independent says McIlroy ended the relationship, leaving Woz “utterly distraught.” They reported that the break up has been “very difficult” for the two.

Speculation of problems between the two arose after they each changed their Twitter profile pictures from ones of them together to ones of them alone. Wozniacki made light of that detail in a tweet:

Likewise, McIlroy denied there was anything wrong between him and Wozniacki.

“Just because we changed our Twitter profile picture doesn’t mean we’re not together. But yeah, it’s all good,” McIlroy told the media.

The Northern Irishman then mocked the reporter who wrote about their breakup, and Woz joined in over Twitter:

McIlroy has been criticized recently for his relationship with Caroline, but that doesn’t mean he has succumbed to public pressure to break up with her. Keep in mind that the reporting regarding the two has been very shoddy. Some reports last year said they were engaged, which they weren’t. They also had to fend off breakup rumors in March and again in July.

We’re usually subscribers to the “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” mantra, but, in this case, we won’t believe it’s over til we hear it from them.

McIlroy finished tied for 19th at The Barclays over the weekend. He is scheduled to be in attendance for Wozniacki’s first-round match at the US Open this week.
