Astros fan buys beer for entire section after Springer home run promise

One Houston Astros fan made quite the promise to his entire section during Friday’s ALDS opener, and ended up paying for it.

One Twitter user noted that a fan in section 104 at Minute Maid Park said Astros outfielder George Springer would lead off the bottom of the fifth with a home run, and promised to buy everyone in his section a beer if it came to pass. It did happen, and he followed up on his promise.

“If @georgespringer hits a homerun, I’m buying everyone in the section a beer!” Springer hits a homerun. He buys us all beer. Heroes don’t always wear capes. @astros #crawfordbox pic.twitter.com/Qvg7p9LNkp

According to Matt Young of the Houston Chronicle, the fan, Eddie Flores, ending up buying $300 worth of beer for the bulk of his section — row one was excluded, as the vendor ran out of supply.

Flores said it was a no-brainer to follow through on his pledge, and he clearly enjoyed the moment.

“No way, I loved it,” Flores said. “I was celebrating. It went out, we all went crazy and I went looking for the beer man.”

It wasn’t the only home run hit by the Astros in what turned out to be a pretty brutal day for Corey Kluber. It was quite the opposite for the patrons in section 104.
