Astros fan takes out newspaper ad thanking Nationals fans for their hospitality

Washington Nationals fans could not have been happy with the way their team played at home in Game 3, 4 and 5 of the World Series, but apparently they did a good job of not taking out their frustrations on Houston Astros supporters.

On Monday, an anonymous Astros fan took out an ad in the Washington Post to thank Nationals fans for the hospitality they showed while hosting three World Series games. The fan wrote that there “seems to be a true appreciation for what we have in common like passion for the sport, our teams, and the fun of watching two great teams battling it out on the field, rather than a shallow focus on what differentiates us.”

In an era where we have seen some senseless violence between fans of different MLB franchises, that is a refreshing take. That letter is a reminder that not everyone tries to make an opposing fan’s experience miserable when they come to a visitor’s ballpark. Hopefully fans in Houston return the favor when the Nationals come to town for Game 6 on Tuesday night.
