Bartolo Colon hit by line drive on pitching hand (Video)
When it’s Bartolo Colon’s day to pitch (and bat) you never know what will happen. Unfortunately, the lovable pitcher was forced to leave Tuesday’s game early with an injury.
Colon was only four pitches into his outing when Whit Merrifield hit a line drive back up the middle that caught Colon on his right thumb.

Colon was taken to the locker room to be examined by the team’s training staff and was replaced by Hansel Robles. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com passed along the update that the Mets have diagnosed Colon with a thumb contusion.
#Mets are calling Bartolo Colon's injury a right thumb contusion. X-rays were negative. Nothing broken, which is a sigh of relief.

Good news indeed for Colon and the Mets. However, there was a bit of unfortunate luck involved for Colon as well. Tuesday’s game was Noah Syndergaard’s turn in the rotation, but his start was pushed back to Wednesday to give him an extra day of rest after throwing 115 pitches in his start last Wednesday. Colon was bumped up a day as a result.
For the season, Colon came into Tuesday’s game 6-3 with a 3.01 ERA in 80.2 innings. He also hit his first career home run last month.
