Orioles’ Blaze Alexander calls out Royals for injuring him

Baltimore Orioles infielder Blaze Alexander had a sharp response to the Kansas City Royals over the circumstances that led to him breaking his hand in Sunday’s game.

Alexander was hit by a pitch from Royals reliever Lucas Erceg in Baltimore’s 8-2 win over Kansas City on Sunday. Alexander was struck on the hand after Erceg tried to executive a quick pitch against him. That made Alexander angry, and the benches briefly cleared as he and Erceg traded words.

After the game, Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino seemed to believe that Alexander felt the Royals were throwing at him and got a little bit arrogant over the good season he is having.

“To be honest, that’s a guy who’s hitting over .300 and is feeling good about himself that feels the need, when he gets hit, that he can say something. So credit to him for feeling good about himself like that,” Pasquantino said.

That quote made its way to Alexander on Monday, and he fired back at Pasquantino’s theory.

“Weird take.. Never thought it was intentional but the 2 quick pitches to try and catch me off guard led to me now missing games. Thanks for the compliments tho Big Foot,” Alexander wrote on X.

Ultimately, nobody did anything against the rules here. Alexander is no doubt frustrated that he broke his hand in what he thinks was an avoidable manner, while the Royals would maintain Erceg was just doing his job and trying to gain an advantage on the mound.

Quick pitches can occasionally rub other teams the wrong way, even at the best of times. Alexander was never going to react well to getting hurt by one.
