The Toronto Blue Jays have pulled off a notable reunion.
Jamie Campbell of Sportsnet reported on Monday that the Blue Jays are bringing back veteran right-hander Aaron Sanchez. They are signing Sanchez to a minor-league deal, Campbell adds.
The 31-year-old Sanchez began his MLB career with the Blue Jays in 2014 and was with them for six seasons. He was an All-Star during the 2016 campaign, going 15-2 and also leading the AL with a 3.00 ERA that year.
Sanchez got dealt to the Houston Astros at the 2019 trade deadline though and had struggled in recent years, in large part thanks to shoulder and bicep injuries. He pitched in the minor leagues last season, going 4-5 with a 5.54 ERA over 22 total appearances in Triple-A.
As for the Blue Jays, they need some answers right now as they are currently sitting in the basement of the highly competitive AL East at 16-19. The team recently got called out by their own manager, and now they are turning to an old friend in Sanchez as a possible emergency fallback option at pitcher.
