Blue Jays reportedly agree to deal with reliever John Axford
The Toronto Blue Jays have decided to take a flier on relief pitcher John Axford.
Axford and the Jays have agreed to a deal, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported on Thursday.
Axford, 34, is from Canada, so this is somewhat of a homecoming for him.
The 6-foot-5 right-hander spent the past two seasons with Oakland. He suffered a shoulder injury last year and posted a 6.43 ERA over 21 forgettable innings.
Axford, who led the league with 46 saves for the Brewers in 2011, has a career 3.71 ERA.
