Brewers All-Star Corey Knebel to undergo Tommy John surgery
The Milwaukee Brewers will be without one of their top relief pitchers for the season.
Corey Knebel will undergo Tommy John surgery, the team announced on Friday. Knebel said it was an issue he’s had for several years and got worse to the point that he’s deciding to undergo the operation next week.
Corey Knebel will undergo Tommy John surgery on Wednesday. Dr. Neal ElAttrache will perform the surgery.
“Had it for five years and it got a little worse,” Knebel said.

The Brewers had shut Knebel down last week and were sending him for a second opinion on his damaged UCL. A second opinion often leads to a recommendation for reconstructive surgery, which is what the pitcher will be undergoing.
Knebel went 4-3 with a 3.58 ERA and 16 saves last season. He was an All-Star the year before after saving 39 games with a 1.78 ERA.
