Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell is not too concerned with Cole Hamels’ rivalry comments made on Monday.
After the Brewers beat Hamels’ Chicago Cubs on a walk-off fielder’s choice Monday, Hamels dismissed the notion that the Cubs-Brewers is a big rivalry. Instead, he said most of the fans in attendance — even at Miller Park — were Cubs fans.
Asked about Hamels’ comments on Tuesday, Counsell talked his way around the subject.
Counsell on the Hamels "no rivalry" nonsense: “I really look at it like we're spending way too much time trying to classify rivalries. Enjoy the baseball games, man. Home, road, I'm happy to be in the building."

"More Counsell on the rivalry stuff: “If you're not enjoying that game (Monday) — sorry, Cubs fans, I know it didn't turn out like you wanted — but that's a great baseball game. That moment with Rizzo — I can be a fan for a minute — that's a great moment."

Counsell is right — the game should be enjoyed for what it was, regardless of whether or not it was a “rivalry” matchup. What matters is both teams are involved in the playoff race, and it was a great September ballgame.
