Cardinals GM: ‘More momentum’ for bringing designated hitter to NL
Could the designated hitter be on its way to the National League?
St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said on Saturday that there is “more momentum” building to bring the rule to the Senior Circuit.

Obviously, there is a long way to go, and there’s still no consensus. Many thought this was inevitable when the Astros moved to the American League and realignment led to year-round interleague, despite AL and NL teams being constructed with slightly different aims. The National League is basically the only competitive league in the world that doesn’t use the DH. Moreover, Mozeliak knows full well that fluke injuries can happen to pitchers hitting, as his ace Adam Wainwright ruptured his Achilles while batting in April and didn’t return until the very end of the regular season.
Of course, this debate has been going on for years, and such a change won’t be taken lightly. In fact, we can think of at least one guy who would hate it if the DH came to the National League.
