During Saturday’s game between the Brewers and Reds, Cincinnati’s speedster Billy Hamilton apparently lost his supply of bubble gum while in center field. Fortunately, his Milwaukee counter part provided ample replacements.
The note accompanying the pieces of of gum read, “I see you dropped all your gum so I brought you some more.” As an added touch, there is the inclusion of a smiley face.
Gomez has a reputation as a guy who has rubbed more than a few people the wrong way during his career. He aggravated Ian Desmond with a slide into second base. He also exchanged words with Gerrit Cole, which led to a benches clearing brawl. Gomez has also been known to pimp a home run or two.
This time around, we see the fun and good-natured side of Carlos Gomez, which is certainly much easier to like.
