Chris Archer nearly missed start because of suspected food poisoning
Chris Archer on Wednesday won his first game as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates, but that almost didn’t happen.
Archer had been ill the previous few days, and as of Tuesday, the Pirates were unsure if he would be able to make his scheduled start. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Bill Brink, Archer suspected that he had food poisoning.
Pirates weren't sure yesterday that Archer was going to make his start because he felt ill. He thinks it might have been food poisoning. "I tried to stay as hydrated as possible," he said. "Haven’t eaten a whole lot the past couple days."

For a guy who wasn’t feeling his best, Archer sure pitched well. He allowed five hits and two runs over five innings, picking up the win in the Pirates’ 4-3 victory over the Rockies.
