Chuck Knoblauch won’t be honored by Twins after alleged assault on ex-wife Cheri

Chuck Knoblauch will not be honored by the Minnesota Twins next month after he was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly assaulting his ex-wife Cheri Knoblauch.

Knoblauch, who was the 1991 AL Rookie of the Year and a four-time All-Star with the Twins, was scheduled to be inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame, but the team cancelled that in light of the arrest.

According to KHOU, Knoblauch, 46, is charged with assault of a family member after allegedly hitting Cheri Knoblauch. He was released after posting $10,000 bond.

Here are details on the alleged incident via KHOU:

Cheri, 37, told police she was napping with her child when Knoblauch barged into the child’s bedroom and began yelling at her.

She said he bashed her head into the wall, hit her in the face and threw a humidifier at her.

Knoblauch’s sister, who was staying in the home, said she heard Cheri screaming and saw her brother chasing her through the house. She told officers she witnessed Chuck hitting Cheri repeatedly in the chest and arm. The two women and child fled the house and called police from Knoblauch’s sister’s house.

Memorial Villages police officers arrested Knoblauch and said he appeared “extremely intoxicated.”

Knoblauch has a history of domestic violence. He was convicted in 2010 of hitting previous ex-wife Stacey Stelmach.

Knoblauch and the former Cheri Olvera were married in 2011. As another interesting twist to the story, Cheri Knoblauch is the ex-girlfriend of longtime MLB player Brian Giles. Giles and Cheri were in a nasty legal battle over a domestic violence charge, not to mention Cheri’s claim that they had a financial agreement in case they broke up.

Cheri once left this profanity-laced abusive voicemail for Giles. The language is offensive, but it’s incredible.

For those of you keeping track, this marks two ex-wives Knoblauch supposedly hit. This also is the second ex-boyfriend (and former MLB All-Star) in a row who supposedly beat Olvera.

Oh yeah, let’s also remember that Cheri was once attacked by a dildo-wielding Anna Benson.

Here is the Twins’ statement on the cancelled plans:

“In light of recent news reports surrounding Chuck Knoblauch, as well as direct communication with the former Twins second baseman, the Minnesota Twins have decided to cancel the team’s 2014 Hall of Fame induction ceremony scheduled for August 23 at Target Field. In January of this year, Knoblauch was elected by a 62-member committee consisting of local and national media, club officials, fans and past elected members, using rules similar to those necessary for election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.”
