The decision by the Boston Red Sox to trade star DH Rafael Devers to San Francisco has not gone down well with many of the team’s fans, and a few crossed the line in registering their displeasure.

Newton, Ma. police told TMZ Sports that they were “notified by representatives from the Boston Red Sox Organization that some members of the Red Sox have been victims of doxing on social media due to a recent trade.” That was an allusion to Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, whose home address was published online following the trade by angry Boston fans.

Police added that while they are aware of the situation, they have not had to investigate any online threats.

Breslow has run the Boston front office since October 2023. The Devers trade is easily the most controversial move he has made since taking over the position, and he probably expected backlash, but perhaps not to this degree. Unfortunately, fans do occasionally respond this way when they’re angry with their sports teams.

The Red Sox traded Devers to the Giants on Sunday after a huge breakdown of trust between him and the organization. Devers’ status as a homegrown star made him popular among Red Sox fans, and it did not help that the return the Red Sox got was underwhelming to many Boston faithful.

Some of Breslow’s comments since the trade have arguably only made things worse for him. If the Red Sox win, fans will ultimately move on. If they do not, Breslow might become even more loathed among Boston fans than he already is.

Reports suggest that Boston fans are not the only ones not thrilled with the job Breslow has been doing.
