David Ross celebrated Cubs’ division title by taking single shot

David-Ross

Chicago Cubs catcher David Ross is a 39-year-old. After the team won the NL Central division title Thursday, he figured he’d celebrate like one.

Appearing Friday on The Mully and Hanley Show on 670 The Score Chicago, Ross said he had just finished a workout after a game on Thursday when a loss by the St. Louis Cardinals officially clinched the division for the Cubs. The veteran then decided to celebrate a little.

“It was pretty low key,” Ross said. “I took the train in yesterday to the field, so afterward I got a little workout in to try and let the crowd clear out and walked home. I walked about halfway home and just kind of poked my head into the window of some of the bars and would check the (Cardinals-Giants) score and saw they had a pretty comfortable lead.

“Then once we clinched and St. Louis lost, I walked into the bar, threw a shot back and hopped in a cab the rest of the way home,” Ross continued. “It was pretty uneventful.”

Hopefully, Ross was able to get to bed at a reasonable hour that night as well.

Age jokes aside (which Ross’ teammates have certainly indulged in plenty this season), he’s probably just trying to keep it low-key knowing that the Cubs still have a lot of work left to do. For Ross, who won the 2013 World Series as a member of the Boston Red Sox, he’ll hope to save the hardcore partying for the postseason.
