A wholesome moment between father and son turned ugly on Friday because of one disgruntled Philadelphia Phillies fan.
Phillies outfielder Harrison Bader launched a meatball slider from Miami Marlins pitcher Lake Bachar to the second deck in left field at loanDepot Park in Miami, Fla. The solo shot was significant, given that it gave the Phillies a 5-1 lead off back-to-back home runs from Bader and Brandon Marsh.
But Bader’s home run ball may have caused more harm than good. A middle-aged Phillies fan won the mad scramble for Bader’s ball in the seats. After making the grab, the man triumphantly walked back to his family to give his son the souvenir.
One woman who lost out on the ball confronted the man and demanded that he hand the ball over. The man, who nabbed the ball fair and square, gave in to her request to avoid making the scene even messier.

The woman got lucky that she challenged possibly the nicest Philadelphia sports fan on the planet. It’s one thing if he swiped the ball right from her hands, but it’s another thing entirely that he was just quicker to the prize than everyone else.
The man and his son received a dose of karmic justice two innings later. A Marlins stadium staffer approached the family and gave the young boy a bag full of merch.

Sports freebies seem to bring out the worst in some grown adults. A similar situation happened last week when a man stole an autographed hat from a kid at the US Open.
