Needing replacements following Max Muncy’s injury, the Los Angeles Dodgers have called Esteury Ruiz up to the Big Leagues.

The 2023 stolen base leader officially joined Los Angeles on Thursday.

Muncy left Wednesday’s walk-off win over the Chicago White Sox in the sixth inning after Michael A. Taylor slid hard into his leg attempting to steal third base. Muncy went down in obvious pain, favoring his knee, and would not return.

Although Muncy’s MRI came back clean, he is still expected to miss six weeks with a bone bruise.

“It was obviously amazing hearing the news that nothing was torn, nothing was ripped,” said Muncy, via ESPN. “That was obviously a huge sigh of relief for me, but it still sounds like too long of a time in my head.”

Ruiz, who has gone 1-2 with a strikeout in two games since joining the Dodgers, last played in May of 2024 when still a member of the Oakland Athletics. He was traded to Los Angeles in exchange for pitcher Carlos Duran this past April.

The 26-year-old Ruiz led the MLB with 67 stolen bases as a rookie in 2023, while batting .253/.345/.654 with 24 doubles, five home runs, and 47 RBI.

Ruiz appeared in just 29 games last season, missing the final 111 with a left wrist injury.
