Coming into Monday, you may not have been familiar with Ezequiel Carrera, unless you’re a Detroit Tigers fan.
Making his first start of the season, the 27-year-old made sure we know his name by making an incredible catch in the bottom of the third inning.
Jacoby Ellsbury, and probably most of Yankee Stadium, surely thought he found the gap after driving a Max Scherzer pitch to deep center field. That is, until Carrera tracked the ball down, went airborne, and extended to make the catch.

I think Derek Jeter’s reaction pretty accurately sums it up.
With Austin Jackson now patrolling center field for the Seattle Mariners after being part of the David Price trade, Carrera will be vying for playing time with Rajai Davis. Not a bad way to state your case for more starts in the near future.
