Watch: Gary Sanchez appears to pimp routine fly ball
Fly balls typically don’t carry as well at Yankee Stadium in March as they would in the middle of the summer, and Gary Sanchez appears to have learned that the hard way on Opening Day.
Early on in the Yankees’ game against the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, Sanchez lifted a fly ball to left that looked like it had a chance to leave the park. Judging by the way he reacted both after he made contact and as he was walking off the field, it sure seemed like the catcher thought he had his first homer of 2019.

Sanchez certainly isn’t the first player to mistakenly pimp a routine out, but Yankees fans will tell you that type of behavior is all too common from him. Remember, this is the same Sanchez who has cost the team with some incredibly lazy mistakes behind home plate. That’s not a good look for him to start off the season.
