Hanley Ramirez has appeared in just 60 games over the last two seasons combined, but he is hoping that his latest procedure gets him right for 2020.
MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported on Tuesday that the former All-Star slugger underwent right shoulder surgery this week after years of discomfort and is hoping to be healthy and play next season. The procedure comes after Ramirez previously had three separate surgeries on his left shoulder.
The 35-year-old hit .184 in 16 appearances for the Cleveland Indians this season before being designated for assignment in April. His last relatively healthy season was in 2017 when he batted .242 with 23 home runs and 62 RBIs for the Boston Red Sox.
Ramirez has also been bugged by some off-field drama in the last year, so a resurgence of sorts in 2020 would be a better way for him to cap his career.
