Hunter Strickland apparently never bothered to learn Crash Davis’ first lesson: If you’re going to throw a punch, never use your pitching hand.
San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy told reporters on Tuesday that Strickland will miss 6-8 weeks after breaking his pitching hand. Strickland apparently punched a door after blowing a save on Monday night and needs surgery.

The 29-year-old reliever allowed three runs on three hits and two walks in the 9th inning on Monday. He blew a 4-2 lead and took the loss in the Giants’ 5-4 defeat to the Marlins. Strickland had been sharp until Monday, but his ERA jumped from 2.01 to 2.84 after the poor outing.
Strickland has developed a reputation for being a bit of a hot head on the mound.
Tony Watson and Sam Dyson could handle 9th inning duties for the Giants while Strickland is out.
