Jazz Chisholm has heated verbal exchange with Braves coach

Jazz Chisholm will not be exchanging Christmas cards with one member of the Atlanta Braves organization.

The New York Yankees infielder Chisholm was involved in a heated incident with Braves bench coach Eddie Perez during Saturday’s game. In the sixth inning at Truist Field in Atlanta, Ga., Chisholm had just made it into third base when some chirping from the Braves dugout got his attention.

Another broadcast angle revealed that it was Perez who was doing the chirping at Chisholm. In response, Chisholm made a bunch of crying, yapping, and shooing gestures with his hands. The broadcast cut to Perez, who was seen yelling and gesturing back at Chisholm.

At one point, Perez even appeared to point to his head. That led to the Yankees home broadcasters speculating that Perez was threatening to have Chisholm hit in the head during his next at-bat. Here is the video.

The former All-Star Chisholm would go on to score from third base on an Austin Wells groundout as part of a four-run sixth inning for the Yankees. They ended up winning the game against the Braves by a 12-9 final score.

Perez, 57, is a beloved Braves figure who won the 1995 World Series with them as a player and was also named NLCS MVP during Atlanta’s NL pennant victory in 1999. He then became a coach for the Braves and has served in various capacities for them since 2007.

Chisholm, 27, is generally known for being somewhat confrontational. But absent any further context, the veteran coach Perez probably came away looking the worse of the two there.
