Report: Joe Maddon as Angels manager ‘basically a done deal’
The long-awaited hiring of Joe Maddon as manager of the Los Angeles Angels appears to be moving forward.
According to various reports, Maddon interviewed with the Angels on Monday, and people close to Maddon believe the hiring will happen. That is according to Andy Martino of SNY, who reported that people close to Maddon view it as “basically a done deal.”
People who know Joe Maddon have been saying it’s basically a done deal with the Angels. That’s why his name has not come up at all for Mets. @JonHeyman reports Maddon interviewing with LA today

The Angels have other interviews to proceed with, but this has long looked like a likely scenario. Maddon spent 30 years in the Angels’ organization as a player and a coach at multiple levels of the team’s system, and was the bench coach when the Angels won the World Series in 2002. That was probably reason enough to draw him to the franchise once again. It looks like it’s going to happen.
