Jonathan Lucroy found out about Rangers trade from Twitter
Jonathan Lucroy is just the latest player to find out about his trade through social media.
Lucroy wrote about his trade deadline for ESPN, detailing his emotions, his reasons for rejecting a trade to Cleveland, and his reaction to being dealt to Texas. It turns out that Lucroy found out about his move to the Rangers from his agent, who found out about it from a Ken Rosenthal tweet.
“I was in a parking lot at O’Hare International Airport when Doug [Rogalski, Lucroy’s agent] called,” Lucroy wrote. “It was 2:50 p.m. Central time. Ten minutes before the deadline. Doug said Ken Rosenthal tweeted that I’d been traded to the Rangers. I was totally calm about it. I said, I’ll stay here and wait for confirmation from David [Stearns, the Brewers general manager]. Five minutes later, I got the call. It was really straightforward: Hey, we just traded you to the Rangers. It’s official.”
Lucroy isn’t the only ballplayer to find out about his trade from social media. In fairness, the deal seemed to come together very quickly right before the deadline. Still, it can’t be fun to find out that way.
