Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez has died.

Several reporters confirmed on Sunday morning that Fernandez passed away in a boating accident over the weekend. He was 24.

Fernandez was arguably the best young pitcher in baseball. The right-hander had compiled a 16-8 record with a 2.86 ERA this season. His career ERA was 2.98. Fernandez was taken with the 11th overall pick in the 2011 draft and had bounced back quickly after having Tommy John surgery in 2013.

The Marlins canceled their game against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday in light of the tragic news.
