Jose Reyes gets ovation in return to Mets (Video)
Jose Reyes spent the first nine seasons of his major league career with the Mets before departing as a free agent to sign with the Marlins. After subsequent stints with the Blue Jays and Rockies, Reyes has returned to New York.
Last October, Reyes was arrested on domestic violence charges. Charges were dropped. However, Major League Baseball still suspended the 33-year-old infielder through May 31. When Reyes’ suspension ended, the Rockies designated him for assignment and he was ultimately released.
There was reported interest from a few teams, but it was the Mets Reyes signed with. After 11 minor league games, Reyes was back in the big leagues on Tuesday and received an ovation from many at Citi Field prior to his first at-bat.
Reyes went hitless in four at-bats on the days as the Mets lost to the Marlins 5-2. With David Wright now on the 60-day disabled list, Reyes is expected to receive regular time at third base, taking over for Wilmer Flores.
