Justin Verlander wants watch back from Alex Avila after home run
Justin Verlander had a funny exchange with Alex Avila after being burned by his former catcher for the second start in a row.
In the 7th inning of Monday’s Tigers-White Sox game, Avila homered off Verlander to tie the game at two. The homer marked Avila’s sixth of the season and second homer off Verlander as he also took the former Cy Younger deep in a previous game.
Avila used to catch Verlander for years until signing with the AL Central rival White Sox in the offseason. Verlander had plenty of success pitching to Avila during their seven seasons as teammates in Detroit, so he lavished his former catcher with gifts, including a few watches, throughout their time as teammates.
So guess what happened after Verlander surrendered the homer to Avila on Monday? He demanded a watch back:

The whole watch thing is a joke that’s been ongoing since Avila took Verlander deep the first time.
After Avila's homer last week, Verlander said, "I think I’m going to ask him back for one of the watches I’ve gifted him. It’s only fair."
