Lorenzo Cain ‘highly likely’ to be shut down for the year
The Kansas City Royals may have seen the last of their All-Star center fielder for the 2016 season.
Joel Goldberg of FOX Sports spoke on Saturday with Lorenzo Cain, who admitted that it’s “highly likely” he gets shut down for the year thanks to a sprained wrist.
Just talked w/Lorenzo Cain. Considering shutting it down for the year. Says that's highly likely. Was basically swinging w/1 arm last night

The 30-year-old Cain has been dealing with the wrist injury since at least mid-August, per Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star.
Lorenzo Cain said he has been dealing with a left wrist injury for two weeks that causes pain when he swings.

If he is indeed finished for 2016, Cain would close out the year batting .287 with nine home runs and 56 RBIs. He still has some incentive to stick around seeing as the Royals currently only four games out of the race for the second wild card spot in the American League. But with an ailment that seriously hampers him every single time he swings the bat, Cain would probably be smart to just call it a season.
