Miami Marlins manager Clayton McCullough delivered an elite umpire rant during Monday’s game, and most of it was caught on a field microphone.
Marlins leadoff man Xavier Edwards was ejected just one batter into Monday’s game against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. Edwards appeared to be displeased by a few ball-strike calls, and umpire Brennan Miller tossed him quickly.
That did not sit well with McCullough, who got his money’s worth in a profanity-laced rant at Miller.
“A motherf—ing major league player has something to say to you and you’re gonna throw him the f— out for that? In the first f—ing inning? Are you f—ing kidding me?” McCullough could be heard saying on the Marlins broadcast.

For better or worse, the broadcast quickly realized that the argument probably shouldn’t have been going out on television, and quickly turned down the microphone. Amazingly, McCullough was not ejected, perhaps indicating that Miller accepted that the manager had a point about the quick hook for Edwards.
Miller is unlikely to flinch at McCullough over this. After all, he was on the receiving end of New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone’s now-famous “savages” remark six years ago. It’s safe to say he has heard worse.
The Marlins went on to lose to the Nationals 2-0, accumulating just two hits in the defeat.
