Max Muncy hit for incredible power last year but not for very much average, and now he is concentrating on becoming a more well-rounded hitter.
In an interview this week with Cary Osborne of Dodgers Insider, the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger said that he has been making changes at the plate specifically to improve against offspeed pitches this offseason.
“Everything has to do with my front leg, how I was landing on my front leg,” said Muncy. “It’s still something we’re working on. It’s not something that’s going to happen overnight. It’s been a lot of work in the offseason.”
The 2019 All-Star, who hit .251 last season with 35 home runs and 98 RBIs, also said that Dodgers hitting coaches Brant Brown and Robert Van Scoyoc flew to his native Texas this offseason to work with him.
Muncy mostly hit out of the No. 2 or the No. 5 spot for the 106-win Dodgers last season and did very well for himself there. With the team trading for star outfielder Mookie Betts this winter though, Muncy could have more opportunities to bat in the true heart of the order, especially if his improvement against breaking pitches is for real.
