Houston Astros catcher Max Stassi lost what he thought would be a home run against the Oakland A’s on Sunday after the umpires ruled him out due to fan interference.
Stassi led off the bottom of the fifth inning against Trevor Cahill with a drive to right field. Stephen Piscotty went back to the wall and reached up for what looked like it would be a catch, but a fan snagged the ball from above him.
Stassi circled the bases as if he’d slugged a home run, but the umpires reviewed the play. They determined there was fan interference that prevented Piscotty from making the catch and called Stassi out.

That would have been Stassi’s third homer of the season, but instead he was ruled out.
The fan who interfered on the play said he felt badly about it and that he would probably try to sit further away from the action and not interfere the next time.
The intrepid @dfbarron tracked down Joe Foster, the fan who interfered with Max Stassi's potential home run.
This is not the first time he's been in trouble for fan interference, he said. pic.twitter.com/kU04Vvge3G
