ESPN’s Monica McNutt is going to have a hard time living down her on-air blunder, at least based on how many other people are still bringing it up.
New York Mets broadcaster Gary Cohen alluded to it Monday while calling the Mets’ game against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit, Mich. SNY’s cameras caught sight of a fan wearing a Barry Sanders jersey, and Cohen slyly threw some shade.
“Yes, that’s a Barry Sanders jersey, everybody. Barry Sanders,” Cohen said.

The comment seems to be an allusion to a viral moment last month when McNutt somehow confused a Barry Sanders jersey with a Shedeur Sanders one on ESPN’s “First Take” (video here). The on-air personality was the subject of a lot of mockery for such a basic mistake.
Cohen has been doing Mets games since 1989 and is at times known for his brutal honesty. He certainly did not need to make a joke at McNutt’s expense here, but the opportunity presented itself, and he seized on it.
The Mets wound up winning Monday’s game 10-8, and yes, the broadcast avoided any further shots at ESPN or its on-air talent.
