Brad Ausmus may not be out of a managerial job for very long.
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported on Sunday that the New York Mets have contacted Ausmus about their open manager position.
Ausmus, 48, was just let go as manager of the Detroit Tigers after presiding over a 2017 season that saw them go 64-98 and finish last in the AL Central. He had a record of 314-332 (.486) in his four seasons at the helm in Detroit.
The Mets have also been eyeing other similarly experienced candidates, but they have the option of going younger as well. Thus, it sounds like everything is on the table for now as they continue to search for Terry Collins’ successor.
